Y-Mart Taiwan Specialty Products

Never knew why it always started out with a Y!
All the bright colors for your viewing pleasure!
I just wanted to make a write up about this convenience store. I am one of those people familiar with Taiwan, since I have visited this country since I was a kid. I have even lived there by myself for 1 month at some point. I am featuring this place since it is my family's own creation, and we wanted to bring the things we enjoyed in Taiwan to Philippines. Now, based on my perception of Taiwan, it's a wonderful place, but much smaller than Philippines with a mix of oriental cultures from both Japan and China since it is still considered Republic of China. With that mixture of cultures, you'd be surprised at the amount of food that they have over there! It's overwhelming since there is so much good food to eat there (stinky tofu, perhaps?) My family wanted to bring part of that to Manila.
Taiwan is also an instant noodle fanatic like many Asian countries
I like my drinks all natural, colorful and animated!
The products offered here are as colorful and diverse as the United Nations! YMart offers chips, biscuits, candies, food, many many drinks, instant noodles, and also beauty products all shipped from Taiwan or originally from Taiwan. My family likes to feature new things every now and then such as mooncakes, tea eggs, and most recently, my baked goods! I am a baking fanatic and my family wanted me to feauture some of the things I make at the store. So I am starting out with the basics such as my version of Chocolate Chip Cookies and Dark Chocolate Brownies on my first week. I will be changing the stuff every week or if I am feeling inspired, feature another product.

Instant noodles are always a popular staple in this store!
These eggs have been boiling in this spicy tea mixture for days now!
Now about the store itself: we offer packaged goods as well as frozen products and chilled drinks in the establishment. Our goal is to provide a piece of Taiwan here in Manila. Many products are not readily available from Taiwan in Manila so we decided to offer all sorts of food and other products. From chips, instant noodles, and drinks, it's a pretty colorful and diverse selection. Like many Asian countries, people are on the go and like to enjoy meals in an instant. That's why there are many selections when it comes to instant noodles and other snacks. The basic hot snacks offered here are Siopao and Siomai near the counter and our really popular Tea Eggs! It's hard boiled egg boiled in green and red tea as well as several herbs and spices for hours! The wonderful thing about eggs is that it can easily absorb any flavors you put into it. That's what makes it so versatile besides binding and using to mix in desserts and savory dishes. Tea Eggs are pretty popular in China and Taiwan and even in Philippines. I mean we have Tapsilog a lot for breakfast and eat our Adobo and other meals with eggs too! And our Tea Eggs are really afforable at PHP22 per piece!
My creation right here. If you want, come and get it! =)
Some of the things we like here are the milk tea since the original bubble tea first came from Taiwan. Milk tea is the most popular drink you can get around the streets of Taipei, Taiwan. The drinks and milk tea selections we have range from original black tea to green tea and even fruity flavored milk tea such as strawberry and lychee. Drinks are varied here since in Taiwan, people are also on the go, and like to enjoy tea and other drinks in an instant. Chips and noodles are varied as well since most people like different oriental or spicy flavors, and especially ones that are affordable. Spicy or sweet and sour, people like to try out all types of noodles as long as it's affordable.
We believe in quality at an affordable price! Do you?
But one thing my family noticed in Manila or Philippines in general was Filipinos love for ice cream bars. No matter the price, as long as it fits their budget, many Filipinos are willing to spend more than PHP60 or even PHP100 just for ice cream bars. This is understandable that many people want something cold since Philippines is unbelievably scorching hot most of the time. It's either that or it's pouring rain and flooded! With that being said, my family decided to expand their variety of ice cream by featuring ice cream products that are not the ordinary flavors that you would see in the convenience stores in Manila. We have matcha green tea with azuki red beans, taro flavored ice cream, and even Meiji products of Milk flavored and Azuki red beans with condensed milk, and cookies and cream! If that's not enough, we also recently provided Haagen-Dazs, Moose Tracks, Twix and Snickers ice cream to suit the more western taste and market. So yeah, we definitely have many different things! We realized that not everyone has the same preference, so that's why there are many options available!
Drink and cookie combo. Do yourself a favor and come get some!
So if ever you're around town and within the city of Makati, give this store a visit to see a diverse selection of products that you would not normally find here in Manila! It all starts out with a 你好,歡迎光臨!(Ni hao, huan ying guang lin!) Hello and welcome! =)
